MICARES

The Michigan Community and Anishinaabe Renewable Energy Sovereignty (MICARES) project aimed to explore electrical energy as a socio-technological system and support energy transitions that advanced justice and sovereignty for local communities and Tribal Nations in Michigan.

MICARES brought together a diverse range of scholars and community groups to center energy as a social issue, asking what communities most care about in how energy serves their wellbeing, what they know and believe is possible when it comes to energy, and what they hoped to achieve together through an energy transition.

An illustration of the MICARES model is inspired by a medcine wheel and is based on four core questions: What do we care about? What do we know? What is possible? What should we do about it together?
